HPC In Times Of Covid-19
(Un)limited Service
Like most of you, we're working from home at the moment. We try to provide the same service as always, so feel free to mail us. Some things may take a bit longer.
HPC gateway
We're getting a
lot of questions about users being blocked and/or unable to login through the gateway. When setting up the connection, please be very careful about two things:
- Use the correct username. It only consists of letters and perhaps numbers. In particular, there is no dot (.) in your username. If you are unsure, ask us before experimenting.
- Use the correct ssh-key. If you have multiple keys, do not let your ssh-client decide which one to try, but specify it explicitly.
If you just use the commandline ssh-client, https://wiki.bioinformatics.umcutrecht.nl/bin/view/HPC/HowToS#Example_of_a_ssh_config_file has some useful examples.
If you need our assistance configuring or troubleshooting your ssh-connection, please be as elaborate as possible in describing the issue. Give us the command you type, the error messages you see, the configuration files you use. If you use a graphical ssh client, some screenshots might help.
Unfortunately, the machine hpcgw.op.umcutrecht.nl is not only rather busy, but it also has a hardware issue at the moment; it sometimes locks up. See below for the extra (and if needed: replacement) gateway.
Extra HPC gateway
We've installed an extra HPC gateway. A few things to note:
- The configuration of this machine is different than the existing one. However...
- You should be able to login (of use it as proxy) identically. Just change the hostname.
- If this configuration proves to be adequate for regular use, we will reinstall the current gateway similarly.
- You can also get blocked on this machine. Be careful to use correct username/ssh-key
Please feel free to test the new machine: hpcgw01.op.umcutrecht.nl, and please provide feedback on
hpc-systems@lists.umcutrecht.nl. Thanks!
SLURM/SGE
We're still actively moving compute nodes from the SGE cluster to the SLURM cluster. Please continue testing your workflows on SLURM.
