HPC In Times Of Covid-19

(Un)limited Service

Like most of you, we're working from home at the moment. We try to provide the same service as always, so feel free to mail us. Some things may take a bit longer.

HPC gateway

We're getting a lot of questions about users being blocked and/or unable to login through the gateway. When setting up the connection, please be very careful about two things:

  • Use the correct username. It only consists of letters and perhaps numbers. In particular, there is no dot (.) in your username. If you are unsure, ask us before experimenting.
  • Use the correct ssh-key. If you have multiple keys, do not let your ssh-client decide which one to try, but specify it explicitly.
If you just use the commandline ssh-client, https://wiki.bioinformatics.umcutrecht.nl/bin/view/HPC/HowToS#Example_of_a_ssh_config_file has some useful examples.
Unfortunately, the machine hpcgw.op.umcutrecht.nl is not only rather busy, but it also has a hardware issue at the moment; it sometimes locks up. We're working on a replacement, and will let you know when it is ready.

We're still actively moving compute nodes from the SGE cluster to the SLURM cluster. Please continue testing your workflows on SLURM.
